DIAMONDS
COLOR
Diamonds are graded by color, with tinted perfectly colorless. The most sought after color is no color is a perfect crystallization (extremely rare stones). Therefore the more colorful hues will have a value less than certain popular colors (canary yellow, red, blue, etc …).
The Gemological Institute of America, GIA, class diamonds by color using the letters of the alphabet starting with the letter D to Z. A perfectly colorless diamond is rated D and its color will more important is the letter high in the alphabet. Tints E-F are classified as exceptional, the G-H hues are classified as very good, the colors I-J are classified as correct and shade from K to Z is classified as too tinted.
The shade in a diamond is not always a failure because there are diamonds of exceptional color and very rare. these diamonds are described as “Kape color”.
CLARITY / PURITY
Diamonds with little or no inclusion (s) are very rare and therefore they are very expensive. These inclusions can resemble crystals in clouds or in tiny feathers. International standards have established that a diamond is called “pure” from the moment the eye of an expert there will detect defects under a magnification of 10 (10 times). purity level strong> has been established to classify the diamond according to its degree of purity, this scale includes the following degrees of purity:
F: Flawless. No defects,
IF: Internally Flawless. Minor stains surface and no visible internal fault x10 lens,
VVS1 et VVS2: tiny inclusions barely perceptible to the x10 lens,
VS1 et VS2: very small inclusions detectable under the microscope by a moderately experienced eye,
SI1 et SI2: small inclusions visible under the microscope,
I1, I2 et I3: large and / or numerous inclusions visible to the naked eye
CARAT
The weight of diamonds is one of the determining elements of its price. The weight of a diamond is measured in carats. It should not be confused with the carat gold alloys. Thereof is divided into 100 points; and a diamond 25 points equal to a quarter of a diamond carat and 50 points equals one half carat. The stones of large size are rare, the price of a diamond is evolving exponentially depending on its weight. The carat is a measure which also applies to other precious stones and fine stone.
CUT
Gemology considers that the predominant element is the cut of the diamond. The ideal proportions determine a greater brilliance than a lower quality cut diamond. As you can see from the charts a little lower, a lower cut diamond loses brilliance in its upper part. By size or cut, means the finish, the dimensions, the return of light to the eye, the polishing, the symmetry and the various forms of cuts.
Here are some forms of the most often proposed cuts of diamonds:
